Pick a service first. FedEx limits vary enough between products that answering without one would be misleading — Ground Economy caps at less than half the weight Ground does.
Why the service is required here
FedEx Ground takes packages up to 150 lb and 165 in of length plus girth. Ground Economy, a different product, takes 70 lb and 130 in. Those are not small differences, and a package that is fine on one is refused on the other.
So this tool will not answer without a service. Asked without one it says so rather than picking the more generous limit and hoping.
Worked example
A 12 × 10 × 8 in box weighing 100 lb.
- On FedEx Ground, 100 lb is inside the 150 lb maximum. Accepted.
- On Ground Economy, 100 lb is over the 70 lb maximum. Refused.
- Identical package, opposite answers.
Edge cases worth knowing
- Do not apply the Ground maximum to every FedEx product. It is the most common mistake with FedEx limits and the reason this tool insists on a service.
- We hold no standalone length rule for Ground Economy. The result says the longest side was not checked rather than implying it passed.
- Express services are not in our rules yet. Only Ground and Ground Economy have limits on file.
- Oversize and additional handling are separate. We flag hard limits only; surcharge thresholds are a discovery item.

- What is the maximum package size for FedEx?
- There is no single answer. FedEx Ground allows 150 lb and 165 in of length plus girth; Ground Economy allows 70 lb and 130 in.
- Why will it not answer without a service?
- Because the answer would be wrong for at least one product. Guessing the more generous limit is how people end up with a refused package.
- What about FedEx Express?
- Not in our rules yet. Cataloguing the Express service limits is on the discovery list; until then we do not guess at them.
